Arc 5 Recap

  1. The Captains of The High Falutin are searching for the late Captain Jarllow's daughter, Defromora Jarllow.
    1. They have a letter from Captain Jarllow to Defromora, addressed to a place in Corellon's Crown.
  2. At the start of this arc, the captains left the Bonanny Islands with a few more guests:
    1. Pekk, a musician with a striking resemblance to Pucc and a vaguely slavic accent; maker of niche EDM.
    2. Dee-HD (Dearnia Herevin), a TechTokker who used to work as an agent for The Hywelglas, and now has her editing booth in the infirmary of The High Falutin.
    3. Frank, Ari's arboreal turtle. Also she doesn't join them, but Ari has a texting relationship with Haramosh
  3. On the trip to Corellon's Crown, The High Falutin is attacked by a Vengema Rankora semi-submersible warship.
    1. Shadow uses his jump jet to board the ship, and after a short fight and the threat of a self-destruct, The Captains emerge victorious with spearguns of their own.
    2. Their ship is badly damaged, and they stop off at an island infested with Mergor to patch up their vessel
      1. The island turns out to be a rare docile Dragon Turtle, and after plundering the mergor outpost, they continue on their way
  4. Finally, they arrive at Corellon's Crown!
    1. Corellon's Crown is a massive crater, with buildings climbing the steep walls and an immense sub-aquatic marketplace in the center.
      1. Corellon's crown has 4 main areas that you guys have visited
        1. Beleg Andorie Harbor, where The High Falutin is docked and undergoing repair
        2. Gil-Estelaico an exclusive residental area with panoramic views over the city
        3. Tide's End, a kind of ghetto where Defromora was last known to have lived.
        4. Un'theaped Market, a huge central market in the middle of the crater
      2. There are roads navigating all around the rim and ferries that dravel across the bay.
    2. Skavin docks the ship at Beleg Andorie Harbor and coordinates repairs; it will take at least two weeks to get The High Falutin travel-ready again.
    3. In short order upon arrival, The Captains are up to their necks in trouble.
      1. Pucc tries to infiltrate a Vengema Rankora cadre and flees screaming.
      2. Shadow runs into his brother Swol, COO of the Looming Vessel Company, and pickpockets him
      3. Zo tries to cause a distraction, falls over and farts, and casts Fog Cloud, causing the restaurant to evacuate.
      4. Ari is the target of a botched assassination attempt, and they meet Thero, a local fixer trying to ingratiate himself with the Eldrid.
        1. Long story short, there's a power struggle among the Eldrid, with Ari's half brother Kaelvarr trying to solidify his position
    4. After all that, The Captains decide to travel across the city to reach Tide's End to find Defromora
      1. In Gil-Estelaico, the captains encounter Paqelamir, a half-elf that is the spitting image of Pucc and Pekk in middle age, and (and speaks with a french accent)
      2. They reach Tide's End end, and are attacked by a a group of highwaymen looking for coin; the captain's fight them off and discover they're part of a gang called The Cinderlings, lead by the mysterious Prince of Ashes
    5. Evading more Cinderlings, they finally make it to Defromora's Apartment, and find that it's been torched.
      1. Defromora wasn't home, confirmed by a nosy neighbor named Fena with a Dregolem, but they find a journal with names of friends and places she's visited
      2. They get attacked again at Defromora's Apartment, succeed, but are absolutely drained
    6. They flee Tide's End and catch ferry to Un'theaped Market
      1. On the way, they are approached by Detective Avari Telren, who wants to chat with them.
      2. Everyone's pretty skeptical, so he leaves a card and asks them to be in touch.
      3. The party goes shopping, getting some light pharmacological healing, and take a breath.
      4. Shadow gets a text message from his brother, but he doesn't respond and doesn't share it with the others.

Session 45 Summary

  1. After recovering a little in the market, they decide to reach back out to Detective Avari Telren to meet up with him
    1. He suggests The Sunken Trader, a 3-star sushi bar in Un'theaped Market
    2. When they arrive, Detective Avari Telren is already there, drinking a vinegary mead, and invites them to sit.
    3. He knows The Prince of Ashes is up to something, but doesn't have the time or resources to launch a proper investigation; he wants The Captains to infiltrate The Cinderlings and get him intel on their operations.
    4. In exchange, he offers 100gp to start, and Pucc convinces him to offer help in looking for Defromora and possibly help with heads up the Vengema Rankora
    5. Detective Telren's sashimi order arrives with a bad smell, miscoloration, and some pieces which move inexplicably, and Ari is physically ill.
      1. It turns out that Telren lost his sense of smell after an incident during a drug bust, and he thinks this place is great
    6. Shadow takes a bite before they leave, and it's not half bad!
  2. The Captains reach to Paqelamir to say they're going to dinner
    1. Shadow surprises the group by saying that Swol is also coming to dinnner
      1. After, he texts Swol inviting him to dinner; Swol is a dick, but agrees because it's urgent.
    2. First they head back to The High Falutin for a change of clothes and a short rest, pick up some Crabble meat and bagged kelp wine, then head over to Paqelamir's home
  3. Swol meets The Captains at Paqelamir's home
    1. Things get a little tense, and Swol is a being a real jerk
    2. It gets a little awkward, but they eventually all go inside, and Shadow and Swol go to a separate room to talk
      1. Swol tells Shadow about the suspicious activity at Looming Vessel Company being lead by its parent company, and he wants Shadow to look into it because he's not part of the company and "is really shady"
      2. Shadow reluctantly agrees to help, and they bro it out.
  4. The session ends here, but everyone is told to level up their characters for next time.

Session 46 Summary

  1. The Captains, Paqelamir and his wife Elalana Farrel, and Swol have dinner at Paqelamir's house.
    1. Swol is being polite and kind of meat-headed.
    2. They made steamed and buttered crabble with avocado cream and horseradish dipping sauces, a salade nicoise, a couple of fresh baguettes, and the kelp wine they brought earlier
      1. The kelp wine has a delicate and slightly sweet flavor, which gets overpowered by the horseradish sauce but is otherwise quite enjoyable.
  2. Dinner conversation wanders
    1. Paqelamir asks what brought them to Corellon's Crown and how long they are planning on staying
      1. "It's funny, while we look nothing alike, I do feel a kind of connection with you."
      2. Suggests they stay at a couple places; The Chapter House Hotel and Library or The Comfort Suites and Inn (which has a free breakfast option).
    2. Paqelamir reveals he's been working at Microlutions Industries for a little over 30 years as their janitor.
      1. Really good people, very rewarding to work beside and support such helpful people
    3. Very different company back in the day, real start-up energy.
      1. He'd come in late to vacuum, and scientists would still be running labs late into the night.
      2. He befriended a few of them by bringing them coffee and chatting with them about their work. Nice people.
    4. Their research was primarily finding a cheaper alternative to the Regenerate spell for limb and organ replacement.
      1. Particularly helpful and lucrative during the wars with The Interfolk Alliance
      2. Now they are more diversified, with primary research in robotics, Arcanotech, and biotech.
  3. Swol gets up to leave, and Shadow follows him out.
    1. Swol thanks Shadow for helping him with the investigation, and gives him more details, and adds that the company's name is Phorus-Racos Incorporated
  4. Pucc and Pekk decide to get a blood test at Microlutions Industries
    1. Paqelamir takes them to meet Dr. Scothuil "Scott" Gwenfaline, head researcher.
      1. When they are introduced, Dr. Gwenfaline seems pretty easy going, but Pucc and Gyrnst saw that he clocked Pucc and Pekk as they entered the room, then acted like they look different from each other and Paqelamir
    2. He's happy to do the DNA test, and takes them into another room to get their blood drawn.
  5. After they leave, The Captains book rooms at The Comfort Suites and Inn, and discuss their thoughts on everything
    1. Everyone's pretty suspicious of Microlutions Industries and Dr. Gwenfaline, and Gyrnst is pretty confident that Pucc and Pekk are probably clones
      1. "Anyone else get the feeling that Paqelamir's the last rat in the lab?"
    2. Shadow fills them in on what Swol has asked him to do, which will possibly require a trip to Nerithal Isle, where Shadow grew up.
    3. After going through the list of Jobs and Objectives, they call it a night.

Session 47 Summary

  1. After a good night's rest at The Comfort Suites and Inn, the Captains decide to infiltrate the Cinderlings, and the best way to do that is to walk in the front door.
    1. They take a ferry to Tide's End and start walking toward Defromora's Apartment, making no effort to hide their presence.
      1. On the ferry, Gyrnst thoroughly investigates Defromora's journal and identifies two people and a restaurant to investigate
        1. Guurthrax, Defromora's ex-with-benefits, is a Sahuagin who was pressed into a gang.
        2. Julie Simmons, one of Defromora's best friends who works as a barista at a cafe in Gil-Estelaico
        3. Sancho's Palace, Defromora's favorite restaurant.
        4. There are also sketches of people and places from around town.
    2. While walking, they get surrounded by Cinderlings led by a woman named Haelin
      1. She'd much rather be killing them, but she has orders to bring them to The Prince of Ashes.
        1. The Captains make it worse by trying to set her up with Pucc to help Get Pucc Laid
  2. Haelin takes them to The Ash Pit, the Cinderlings' head quarters or barracks, based in an old forge deep in Tide's End
    1. The windows are boarded up, with the only source of light burning barrels and fire pits
      1. As their eyes adjust to the dark, they see 40 to 50 Cinderlings training how to climb, steal, and wield weapons
    2. At the far end, they see two swordsmen sparring, and Haelin calls to The Prince that she's brought them.
      1. The Prince of Ashes comes to meet them, classically attractive with burning eyes and glowing veins
      2. He's mercurial and direct; The Captains can do a job for him and join The Cinderlings or die.
        1. Shadow suggests that he send someone with them on the job, and he flips out at him.
      3. The Prince of Ashes quickly gets bored and tells Haelin to give them the details, and goes back to fighting.
    3. The Captains are told to steal an Arcane Conductor from The Searing Forge in Deepdive Row, situated between Beleg Andorie Harbor and Gil-Estelaico
  3. They catch a ferry back to Gil-Estelaico and plan
    1. Shadow is going to break off and meet Detective Telren to see if they can get the help of the city watch
    2. The rest will go to Sancho's Palace to try to find Defromora
    3. Before they split, Shadow gets a text message from Swol saying that a shipment from Phorus-Racos, Inc. is coming in tonight
  4. We follow most of The Captains to Sancho's Palace where a line goes out the front.
    1. As they wait in line and look around for Defromora, they smell the fantastic and spicy foods coming from within
    2. Gyrnst remembers that the journal has sketches of people, and they look through it to see if they recognize anyone.
      1. The sketches focus on little details, like the hook of a nose or the way the subject holds their utensils.
      2. The only person they see who looks similar is a waiter who's zipping around.
      3. They convince the host that they're friends with that waiter and ask to be seated in his section,
    3. The waiter introduces himself as Memnol, and they give him their number to give to Deframora to connect them since her father died
      1. He agrees to tell her and takes their orders, and we turn now to Shadow...
