01 - A Ship Named the High Falutin
Disclaimer: Arcs 1 and 2 were not prepped/recorded with the same template as newer arcs, and the information saved has been less complete.
Please check Pucc and Shadow's Notes for a more character-driven perspective.
Fun fact: the first session of this campaign was played on November 10th, 2022.
Session 1
- The players are all aboard The High Falutin, a converted cargo vessel, run by the vaguely unlikeable Captain Jarllow and his first mate Skavin, and fed (somewhat poorly) by the cook Josh.
- The ship is in rough shape; Skavin spends most of her time running to different parts of the ship to keep it all afloat.
- They are bound for Port Astartes, along with two other passengers; Brother Jinn and Geraldine
- Zo speaks with Brother Jinn, and they discuss how the stars are no longer right anymore; something is off
- Geraldine keeps to herself,
- They're 2 days into their 7 day journey from the Scatterlands Atoll
- Port Astartes is a hot-spot of activity; rumors of new deep sea volcanic vents have drawn the attention of many people
- Vents attract swarms of strange and rare aquatic life to them, and many sapients see this as a rare opportunity for profit.
- Port Astartes is a hot-spot of activity; rumors of new deep sea volcanic vents have drawn the attention of many people
- The players introduce each other, discuss their motivations for getting on the ship, and their destinations.
- Ari Laguin, a Sea Elf with an estranged family.
- Gyrnst mab Cewllüg, a strong and quiet dwarf, survivor of the cruelty of The Vengema Rankora.
- Shadow Danglebits, mercurial Water Genasi with shifting whims and pleasures.
- Zo, a mystic tortle in search of her kidnapped family.
- That night, everyone is awoken when Mergor attack the ship, killing Geraldine and severely wounding Brother Jinn

- Experience
- 25xp from RP
Session 2
- A chaotic fight ensues!
- The Mergor drill a submersible into the hull of The High Falutin, skewering Captain Jarllow
- After much bloodshed the players managed to fend off the attack and kill the pirates
- Brother Jinn, Skavin, and Josh all survive, but Captain Jarllow and Geraldine are killed
Session 3
- The players unscrewed the former Captain Jarllow from the submersible
- They patch the hole in the hull with Ari outside and Shadow and Gyrnst inside, and let the Mergor submersible sink to the bottom of the ocean
- Geraldine is discovered to be a Rankora agent
- Skavin is revealed to be the new owner of The High Falutin, but is reluctant to captain it
- She's a technician, not a politician, and Captains have a lot of politicking.
- She's impressed with how the players handled themselves, and offers them the collective role of managing the ship
- She has two requirements:
- She gets a cut of the profits
- She's able to retire some day
- They give Captain Jarllow's daughter, Defromora, her right inheritance
- Port Astartes is conveniently en route, and good stopping point
- The High Falutin needs significant repairs, and will need to dock for several days in Port Astartes before continuing on
- At-sea funeral for Captain Jarllow
- He's wrapped in canvas, weighed down with broken gear and equipment, and slowly dropped into the ocean
- "We commit his body to the deep, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the body, when the Sea shall give up her dead."
- From the depths of the ocean, Zo sees the tentacles of a massive entity wrap around Jarllow's body and pull it into the deep...

- The freshly anointed Captains continue their journey to Port Astartes (follow link for full description).
- It's clear news has gotten out about the deep-sea vents, as a variety of other ships are on the same route to the port
- As they make their final approach, the turbid waters are warm to the touch, and a growing tent-town can be seen expanding beyond the borders of the port.
- Brother Jinn disembarks from The High Falutin, and The Captains acquire rooms at The Busted Gull.
- While at The Gull, Pucc made a grand entrance by attempting to cheat a group of group sailors at poker.
- Zo notices that these sailors are wearing sacramental tortle jewelry incorrectly, like trophies
- A crown of coral, dead from mistreatment,[1] that is normally worn by Venerant Matrons, and the back-shells from tortles as shoulder pads.
